James F. Jones, President and Trinity College Professor in the Humanities, is shown serving Mayra Esquilin, the primary prevention services coordinator of the Children's Trust Fund, for Hartford Areas Rally Together (HART), the oldest community organizing agency in New England. Esquilin is president of the HART Board. Robin Sheppard, Professor of Physical Education and Associate Director of Athletics at Trinity, has been instrumental in the movement toward female and male sports equality at the College, as a succesful coach, administrator, and leader.  Sheppard recently spoke as part of Trinity's yearlong celebration of the 40th anniversary of the admission of women in a talk entitled "Coeds and Competition: the Evolution of the Female Bantam."  Sheppard touched upon many topics, including the evolution of the uniform, as pictured.

Twenty student volunteers from Trinity College, UConn Storrs, and UConn Greater Hartford participarted in a cross-state bike ride from Stamford to Hartford, making stops along the way to build public support for investing more and better public transportation, and specifically, a high speed rail.  
 
"We're riding bikes across the state to begin our spring break, but we'd rather be riding high speed rail," said ConnPIRG campaign coordinator Maggie Thomas, a senior at Trinity. On Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, The Trinity College Office of Community Service and Civic Engagement organized a "Bantam Bazaar," a large indoor yard sale to raise money to support Haiti in their time of need.  The Bazaar, which consisted of books, clothes, games, food, and other miscellaneous item donated by the Trinity community, raised over $1,600, and is part of a series of fundraising initiatives taken by members of the community.  Items that did not sell were donated to local charities.  Two organizations have been designated for Trinity's fundraising efforts -- Haitian Ministries of the Diocese of Norwich and Partners in Health.






















"We had never done anything like the Bantam Bazaar before, but with the urgency of Haiti's need, we ran with it," Lindsey Eichler, organizer of the event, said. "What a wonderful thing it was to see so many different members of the Trinity Community come together not only to make it possible, but also to make it a fun event and successful fundraiser. The feeling in the Washington Room was truly one of community; it was a good reminder of how lucky we are."

Trinity College officially dedicated its gym floor for varsity basketball and volleyball as the "Stan Ogrodnik Court" prior to its home game against the Amherst College Lord Jeffs on Saturday, January 23.  Ogrodnik, the most successful coach in Trinity College basketball history, was Trinity's head men's basketball coach for 27 seasons and compiled a 469-186 record that gives him one of the top 30 winning percentages (.717) among NCAA Division III coaches.  For more on Ogrodnik's impressive career, visit: http://athletics.trincoll.edu/sports/mbkb/2009-10/news/Men-s_Basketball_40910.

The Mill, Trinity's student run art house on Vernon Street, officially opened its own art gallery last semester, on Friday, Nov. 13. Managed by Taylor Colantonio '10 (pictured on the right above), the gallery featured a wide range of works from student artists. Sculptures and photographs sat alongside oil paintings, charcoal drawings and mixed media pieces in a carefully orchestrated manner exhibiting the professionalism and dedication by the members of the organization. The Mill has hosted a number of extremely successful events this year already, bringing in artists such as Yes Giantess, Das Racist and Boy Crisis, while also featuring student music groups such the Accidentals, and deejays Johnny Gaffney and Fadil Cantave.
